Competitive Events

We proudly offer six competitive events for the weekend warriors who have yet to accept that their college glory days are over.  You know who you are.  We see you every year getting older and yet, trying harder.

KCI 5K Run
–The chip-timed 5K kicks off the Corporate Cup as the first event of the day so it’s a great chance to put some points on the board for your team and avoid the heat of the day.  The course is mainly trail running through the beautiful backside of the UIW campus (unless it floods the day before) so it’s easy on the knees!  The gun fires shortly after the 7:30am opening ceremony, which means once the run if finished, participants will be first in line at the Miller Lite Beer Garden. New this year, we’ve catapulted from the late 90’s to present day and will introduce bibs with chips so no more bending over to cut off an antiquated chip from your shoe that closely resembles a transvue slide.

University Health System 3v3 Basketball Tournament – Competition gets stronger every year so send the Kawhi of your team to the 2K start line and channel your inner DeRozan while bringing your A-game.  This year’s event will look a little different due to construction in the McDermott Convocation Center.  All divisions will start their tournament on Friday evening at Gervin Gym (6944 S. Sunbelt Dr.) beginning at 6:00 pm.  Teams will play up until the semifinal round before advancing to the final four Saturday morning at 9:00 am in the Wellness Center.  The facility at the Gervin Academy boasts 12 outstanding half courts played all in one location.  For teams that bow out early on Friday, this gives participants a chance to enjoy the tailgating and festivities on Saturday.  And for teams that advance to Saturday, this means you don’t have to play on a side basket in the Wellness Center.  It’s a win-win!  This is a temporary solution, unless our teams find that this is actually better so we welcome your feedback after the event.

FirstMark Credit Union Dodgeball Tournament “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”  See you on the tennis courts for this fast-moving, ball-flying and trash-talking tournament of crazy fun.  We promise the boundary lines won’t be taped and remain in-tact until the last ball flies!

Security Service Federal Credit Union Tug of War A Corporate Cup classic battled out on the infield of the football stadium.  This single-elimination bracketed tournament will be sure to make your scapular muscles scream for days. Hold on for dear life and don’t forget to wear gloves.  Cleats are optional, but no metal spikes are allowed.

Gonzaba Medical Group 4x50M Swim Relay If you are up for wearing your swim trunks in front of coworkers, this event is for you!  Plus it’s a great way to beat the summer heat.  We aren’t prepping for the next Olympics here, so for this four-person relay any stroke or turn goes!

Skill Events

Understandably, not all employees are die-hards, which is why we have created six fun events that open up the field of competition to just about everyone.  Come early, be loud, stay late and be as accurate as you can.

NuStar Energy Golf Chipping  If you have never chipped golf balls from the infield of a baseball diamond, you haven’t lived.  Bring your favorite wedge and we’ll provide the balls.  Warm-up areas are provided. Golf Chipping will take place on Sullivan Field, which is the baseball complex for you non-Cardinal fans.  UIW Athletics is making waves with new sponsorships, including a renovation of the softball complex, which now boasts a new turf outfield they won’t let us cut holes in.

Taco Cabana Corn Toss What exactly is corn toss?  It’s cornhole for you Midwesterners, bean bag toss, or tailgating competition at its finest.  No equipment necessary unless you toss better with a cold beer in your non-throwing hand.  And we have new corn toss boards this year, thanks to an intern wise beyond his years with a skill set that is unmatched.

CPS Energy Soccer Kicks Relive your youth by kicking medium-sized soccer balls into peewee goals from three distances.

Bud Light Football Throw For all the Broadway Joe wannabes out there, this event is for you.  Mini footballs will be provided as you throw at targets from three distances.

The Capital Group Frisbee Kan Jam Tossing a Frisbee is like riding a bike but don’t underestimate the importance of a little practice with your partner before event day. One person at a time tosses, 25 Frisbees at the Kan Jam to earn points in a variety of ways.

Rackspace Sack Race This is not your 3rd grade, nostalgic potato sack race.  It’s a fun, fast and furious relay with four team members hopping a total of 100m. Top finishers advance by heat until the final round.  Fastest hoppers take all.  Staying on your feet is optional.

Wellness Events

Harland Clarke Wellness Walk Come one, come all.  This good-for-you event is for everyone and anyone, including family members of company employees. Feel free to push a stroller, but UIW rules prohibit dogs on the course.  Up to 25 finishers will be scored for overall team points.  In the case that this event causes school-aged flashbacks of not getting picked for the team, we apologize in advance.

Volunteer for Points

Back by popular demand from our inaugural year, Division 1 and 2 teams can once again earn points when their employees register and complete a volunteer shift either during setup day on Friday, May 31 or event day on June 1.  Every company can earn an additional 20 points per volunteer up to five volunteers for completing a shift that helps us pull this monstrosity off!  Register here.

Valero Team Tailgate Contest

Valero Energy FoundationSince our 2012 inaugural year, we’ve noticed a real theme with this event – companies love to tailgate.  Clearly, all of our participants have had some experience with popping tents, pre-game grilling and gearing up for the big event.  We’ve seen great looking tents, lounge furniture, company spirit and even an “Around the World” beer theme.  We want to reward you for your planning and hard work.

Teams will be judged by division and 1st place finishers will be recognized as the winner of the Valero Team Tailgate Contest.  Décor, themes and overall company spirit will be  apart of the contest criteria. More information will be provided as we get closer, but no official entry will be necessary.  Show up, do your thing and judges will be roaming around and checking it all out.  Good luck and happy tailgating!
